Grub and Gab

For your blog this weekend, I want you to bring one thing to eat and invite one person to our virtual Thanksgiving table. The dish should be something you love and or something that is a tradition in your family or a dish that maybe you are known for. The person can be living or dead, but you should share why you think that person would be a great guest.

  1. Thanksgiving is a great American holiday that serves the purpose of bringing thanks to all who are willing to celebrate. A significant dish I would add to the thanksgiving dinner would have to include my grandmother's Sunday morning muffins. These warm muffins were a Sunday morning tradition to my family. After church my family piled into my grandmother's small kitchen to share a nice brunch. Years back the brunch started off as just a simple serving of freshly baked muffins, but as time went on the brunch formed into something more special. Muffins will always bring me back to the memories we all shared in the kitchen every Sunday. The simple little baked good brought more than just a sensation to our tastebuds. It brought years of love and laughter into my grandmother's house.
With the opportunity to invite anyone into our thanksgiving dinner I would have to settle on choosing Matt Stonie. Stonie is an American competitive eater who is ranked second in Major League Eating. He is also well known for his competition in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. I think Matt would be a fabulous contribution to the dinner table with his unique eating skills and appetite. With Matt there will be no need to deal with all those leftovers dishes. He can practice up his skills while he saves you the time of figuring out what to do with the potential extra food. I think that Matt will bring many benefits and conveniences while attending the thanksgiving feast.

    1. I think that is a very interesting choice for a guest, I love it! Bringing a professional competitive eater to a holiday partly centered around food would be a sight to see! I also think that this man would have many interesting and unique stories to share about food and his eating experiences. I think his presence would be a treat for us all!

  3. First, I will start out but saying I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! This thanksgiving if I could bring one person to my Thanksgiving table it would be my great grandpa mike. He died when I was about 3 years old. I can only remember a little from him, but from what my family tells me he reminds me a lot of myself. He just loved kids so much. My aunt and uncle from Massachusetts came home for Thanksgiving, and they adopted a little boy, named Noah, he is now 5 years old and I know that my great grandpa would just love him and all of the energy that he has everyday all day. It was such a blessing when Noah was born, he is what I am most thankful for, because seeing my aunt and uncle so happy each year is such a good feeling for me to be able to witness. I know my great grandpa would be so happy to have another great grandchild, and I know Noah would of loved him as much as I did when he was still around.
If I could bring my favorite dish it would definitely be my grandmas mashed potatoes. They are by far the best things that I have ever tasted topped off with her gravy that she makes. Thanksgiving my one of my favorite holidays by far. I love everyone getting to come together to give thanks for everything that they are thankful for. My favorite tradition is going around the table before we eat and everyone says what they are most thankful for. This year I was most thankful for my family to be able to travel here safely, and that we all got to be together and spend it together.

    1. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving as well. Sometimes it's hard to imagine what Thanksgiving dinner would be like if we had people there that have passed away because we don't really know what it would be like but we do know that they could only make the experience better.

    2. I, too, hope you had a truly great Thanksgiving. I really enjoyed how you connected your little cousin and your great grandpa. I think it was really awesome just to think what it would be like if they did get the chance to meet each other. Also, I am a huge fan of mashed potatoes so that dish from your grandma sounds amazing!

  4. Thanksgiving dinner is probably the most carefully planned out meals of the year, yet it seems to be the most hectic. The traditional dishes, such as turkey and mashed potatoes are always there and then the some families have their own special sides to add to the feast. If I could bring anything to our thanksgiving meal, I would have to bring what my family calls broccoli tots. Basically, it's broccoli, breadcrumbs, cheese, spices, and eggs all mixed up and scooped into little balls in a similar style to tater tots. They sound gross, so I'm not sure what inspired me to make them and then actually try them, but they are really good. I think they would go well with the other traditional items at a thanksgiving meal. If I could bring one person to add to our table, I would have to invite my uncle Joe. He has done so much in his life and has really great stories to tell. For most of my elementary school years, I thought he was a pirate because he circumnavigated the world without getting on an airplane. Also, he is in a band and he composed a symphony in either the key D major or D minor, I'm not sure which. He named one of his albums after his cat, Mexico and he put a picture of the cat on the front of his guitar. Because he has done so many different things, he is very creative, and he is very smart, he can add to almost any conversation. He is a great guy that I think would be a great addition to our meal.

    1. It's always fun to have someone at the table that can tell stories and that is good at it. Maybe someday you will be that person at the table! Also I'm not trying to disagree with you but I hate broccoli (and most vegetables) so I would just pass that dish right on by when it got to me.

    2. I have to say that I like the broccoli tot idea, I like broccoli and I think they would be an interesting addition to a traditional thanksgiving meal. And your uncle sounds like an interesting guy. I get a kick out of the symphony in D minor.

    3. Thanksgiving is definekty a hectic meal to prepare, but so delicious. I love broccoli which makes broccoli tots sound very delicious. Your uncle Joe seems like a wonderful person to invite and he seems very talented and interesting.

  5. The food that I choose to bring to our table is dessert. Cupcakes, specifically. As many people may already know, I absolutely love baking, so I choose to bring cupcakes. They are probably cupcakes that are pumpkin flavored or spice flavored, as that seems like it would go good with a thanksgiving meal. They are festively decorated, to go with the theme of thanksgiving. They probably look like mini pumpkin pies or turkeys (which I have done before), or else some new idea that I find off of Pinterest.
As for my guest, I would invite my grandma Mary Kornacki. She was my mom's mom, and unfortunately she passed away while my mother was in college, before I was born. I never got to meet her, but from the stories I hear, she sounds like a wonderful woman and somebody I would get along with well. I have been told by many people that she was a hardworking woman who really enjoyed baking. Most of the baking recipes that we have in our family come from her, so I think it would be an awesome experience for me to meet her and learn some things from her. I would also like to have some time to learn about her and her life, as well as just talk to her. I think it would be awesome for us to meet each other, and I would love to just learn about her and learn from her.
I also think she would be a great guest because I believe she was an interesting woman, and I believe that she would have a lot of interesting things to say. She had eight children, so she probably knows a lot about people and how to understand them. I have also been told that she was a very helpful person, and that she could find the good in situations. I think my grandmother would be an interesting person to talk to and get to know, so that is why I am bringing her to our Thanksgiving table.

    1. Good call on dessert! I wouldn't want to have thanksgiving without a good dessert to finish it off.

    2. I also love to bake! Cupcakes are my favorite thing to make because there are so many different cake and frosting flavors that you can make and combine, and you can even sometimes put a filling in them.

  6. Thanksgiving is a great holiday that Americans love for its food and the family. Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday, I just love the atmosphere and the the feeling when everyone gathers to eat at the large thanksgiving table. After understanding the thanksgiving part of the holiday, my second priority is food. If I could bring one dish to our thanksgiving table it would be stuffing balls. I really enjoy these because they are a perfect serving of stuffing and make easy to fit more on the plate. They are also good to eat a day or two after thanksgiving as leftovers, they still taste just as good. The inventor of these balls, at least the person who first started making them in my family, was my Aunt. If I could bring one person to our table it would be my grandmother Florence Donachy. She is no longer with us, but thanksgiving has never been the same since she has past. I would want her back at thanksgiving because she was an amazing cook. She prepared all of our thanksgiving meals before she passed. The first thanksgiving without her was missing magic. Everyone loved when she cooked, and she would be great to have back at our table to eat her cooking again. She inspired my aunt to cook our meals close to the same way, so we remember her in that way every thanksgiving. She would be a great addition to our table because her cooking is the best I've ever had. The stuffing balls would also add to her presence. Both the stuffing balls and my grandma would be great additions to our meal.

    1. First off,I think it is really awesome how Thanksgiving is your second favorite holiday because many people seem to forget about it and look ahead to Christmas. Also, I think it is pretty cool how your aunt cooks your meals like your late grandmother did. That really must bring back memories, and I think that is really cool.

  7. Throughout this Thanksgiving break I got the opportunity to eat many meals that were prepared by many people. Out of all this great food, one thing stands out to me in particular just as it does every year. My Aunt Rosa who owns Aiellos cafe makes stuffing for the buffet there and it is very delicious. So if I could bring one food to a thanksgiving meal, it would be that stuffing. If there was one person that I could also bring to this meal it would be my Uncle Josh. The reason for this is because he is humorous and always makes meals enjoyable. He knows how to make everyone laugh but is also very intelligent and can hold many different forms of conversations because of all that he knows. Because of who my Uncle Josh is, he fits in with the children and the adults at the table and can make himself part of all of their lives. He would be a good person to have at Thanksgiving dinner because he can relate to just about anyone there.

    1. It's always good to have someone who can make you laugh at a meal, especially thanksgiving because for some people it's a stressful meal due to the fact that they spent all day cooking. I don't like stuffing, so I would stick to my broccoli.

    2. Someone that can relate and talk to anyone is a great person to have around. Being able to relate to others is a trait that will always remain important.

  8. When my family used to have Thanksgiving, we would all head out to my Grandma Pelton's house and eat dinner with her. I only am now realizing this, but she passed away well over five years ago. It really only seems like last year I was spending time with her. Thanksgiving really isn't the same anymore for me because I always used to sit right by her side and talk to her. Her favorite food, she used to tell me, was mashed potatoes. She could eat them all day if she had the choice. For me, I can say that the love for mashed potatoes has rubbed off on me because I'm exactly the same way. I could definitely eat them all day if I could. So, for our little Thanksgiving dinner, I would love to bring my Grandma Pelton back down here for a little while to spend time with all of us. You can learn a lot from an old woman who has done everything you could imagine. Well, almost everything. She'd tell you stories of the war she fought in, tales of her journey around the world, and maybe even about her husband, whom I've never met, but I can say he was quite the man himself as well. I might even bring us two dishes of mashed potatoes because I think one might not be enough for us all. When it's all said and done, we can all say our thanks and wave Grandma back to where she truly belongs.

  9. Thanksgiving is a holiday that calls into the mind all the things that we are or were thankful for throughout our lives. I am most certainly thankful the people and things of the past and the present. I am especially thankful for my Uncle Frank and his cranberry Waldorf salad. He might not be around anymore, but the memories of him and his recipe still live on today. This dish is my favorite thing at the Thanksgiving dinner. It is a mixture of cranberry, apples, grapes, whip cream, and my favorite marshmallows. Not only is my family drawn to it because of the delicious taste, but rather because the sight, smell, and taste remind us of all the stories he used to tell. I think that my Uncle Frank and his dish would be a great addition to our table because it would provide our group with some exceptional taste as well as a first hand look into life of the past. My Uncle Frank was in World War II, and he used to love to tell stories about his time spent over there. It was always so unbelievable to hear the crazy things that happened over seas during that time. This is why I think my Uncle Frank would be an outstanding person to invite. He is a man of great wisdom and of great strength, and his stories would be a truly remarkable talk that would surely grab the attention of everyone of us who listens.

  10. Thanksgiving is such a special time to gather with friends and family and to be thankful for all the God has blessed us with. The house is always filled with many delicious smells and laughter. I am going to bring my grandma Jeanie to the the virtual Thanksgiving meal. She would be a great guest because she loves to talk and can always keep the conversation going. She can talk to everyone and always keep a conversation going. She is one of the most knowledgeable and interesting people I have even known and she truly loves talking and spending time with people. All the women always get together to prepare everything for Thanksgiving by making a certain dish or even a few. along with the most delicious meal that my mom makes, my grandma bring the most delectable pecan pie. She also made a special one for me this year because of my allergies which was extremely delicious. The first I tried the pie I was hesitant, but it was sweet and delicious. We also only eat this pie on Thanksgiving which makes it taste even better and is something special for the entire family.. My grandma always has the best stories to tell and always makes everyone feel welcome to the table.

    1. Mandy, I like this one a lot because pecan pie is actually my favorite pie. It's so strange how it's always grandmothers who cook the best haha, besides our mothers. My Grandma Raffeinner always cooks the best, but that's a secret to mom.

  11. Sure, thanksgiving is a warm and likable event, in fact, I feel it's purpose is purely for the sake of unity. Although, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to do nothing but eat food all day long? Yet, as I ponder whom and what I would invite to my metaphorical table, I can't help but feel a sense of absence. My great grandma Fritz died about a year ago, and it hadn't really felt like she was gone until this great feast day. She was a considerably spry woman, up until a few months prior to her passing, and she lived a long and full life as a 90 something year old lady. So, in honor of her, I would like to invite Rosemary Fritz to my "table". I can still recall the times when the Fritz side of my family would all gather at my great grandparent's humble abode for the first thanksgiving meal of the day. As a child I would creep around the tables, as I ever so impatiently awaited the savory taste of the foods being prepared. There were a few key aspects I always noted about the dishes, like the strange barb-like pieces sticking out of the delicious smelling ham. Later on I learned that these little barbs were called cloves, and you had to be especially wary when removing them before consumption, otherwise you'd make your mouth numb or something along those lines. More specifically, I remember my little grandmother Rosemary always making some sort of sweet, which was most often some sort of pie. Though I didn't necessarily note the specific taste or even the general makeup of the pastry, I could still appreciate the hard work that went into it. The scent that wafted from the soft crusted sweet was warm and subtle, just enough to pull you in. So, in other words, I guess all I really yearned for this past thanksgiving was to have another meal with my great grandmother and to relish in the deliciousness of her baked goods once again.
